Laura Magliveras graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with an Honours degree from the widely regarded Tapestry Department. Since then she has developed her career in both tapestry weaving and painting. Both are underpinned with drawing and photography. Her painting is particularly concerned with a sense of place beyond the representational. Along with a strong feeling for the illuminating effect of light she wishes to convey an emotional response to her subject. Having a home in Greece and spending much time there has influenced all her art.
For many years Laura enjoyed teaching Drawing and Painting as well as Tapestry Weaving to adults around Edinburgh and has gained a wide reputation for her successful art holidays both in Scotland and abroad. Laura was a council member on VAS for 10 years and is now very involved with the Cordis Trust in promoting and showing international Tapestry weaving.
